Old Business

Movies in the Park

Cotati held two movies in the park in La Plaza Park. Thomas Page was invited to sell popcorn at both, but the first one coincided with the Ice Cream Social. The PTA was all set to sell popcorn at the second one then discovered at the last minute that the city had made a mistake and given the popcorn concession to another school. The PTA scrambled and got milk, cookies, and ice cream (donated by Cold Stone) to sell. The night was unseasonably cold and the PTA sold not much. We only broke even, but it was good PR since a lot of other schools were there and it would have seemed odd if TP wasn’t there.

Some of the other schools were:
-John Reed sold popcorn
-Rancho boosters sold barbecue
-Monte Vista did candy or coffee

Terry with the city of Cotati promised us that next year TP would have the popcorn concession, and Terry is selling pasta feed tickets for us. Next year, movie night will be on Thursday, after the Farmer’s Market.

Accordion Festival

Kathy Doran brought a survey for the folks who volunteered at the Accordion Festival, and she said that she was attending an event the next Saturday where the checks from the Accordion Festival would be presented to the schools. NOTE: The check turned out to be for $5000!

New Business

Pasta feed

Not many tickets have been sold in advance. Tammy and Dana feel that people will show up and buy tickets at the door. PTA should consider using the non-profit mailing status to send fliers home to parents, and send more fliers home via the students.

We confirmed the dancers, the entertainment and the MC. Eating is scheduled for 5:30p to 7p, with the dancers coming on at 7p and dancing for 45 minutes.

Lisa Moore has ok’ed posting the Pasta Feed info on the City of Cotati sign at the corner of Old Redwood Hwy and East Cotati, by the firehouse.

Pasta King charges by the plate, and a plate includes pasta, salad, and garlic bread. We’ll sell drinks and desserts.

Dana asked teachers to donate a basket per class for the silent auction.

The question came up of how to decorate the MU for the Pasta Feed. Tammy volunteered to lead the “Ambience Committee” to decorate the MU. Orchids for the tables were suggested as well as all the volunteers wearing tropical print shirts. The Lairds volunteered to supply tropical print shirts to anyone who needs one.

Space and table allocation in MU for Pasta Feed

Pasta King people need tables along the big 4 math wall, so it was decided that the silent auction tables (the Moss’ requested 4 tables) would be along the front wall. Half of the MU tables would be put down for the event, and chairs would be set up in front of the stage for people to sit and watch the entertainment.

Penny Drive

Over 100,000 pennies already! PTA proposes that November be a big penny push with rewards to the two classrooms that bring in the most pennies in November. A reminder that Friday mornings are penny counting mornings, either in P6 or B3, depending on the progress of the haunted house.

Other Items

Maggie Gardner has offered to do something special with Box Tops for Education if PTA will provide two prizes, one for the holiday season and one for spring. She requested $20 per prize, and the PTA board approved the request.

Maggie needs the password for the Box Tops Web site and Donald agreed to investigate.

E-scrip
Lisa Barbour is taking this over from Tija Moss. The PTA is awaiting the paperwork from Escrip, but we are now authorized.

Raleys cards
We are getting access to the web site to check balance, and soon will be paid.

Page Parent Participation Points (PPPP)
We’ve held two kids nights out so far and have not received enough signups to make it worthwhile. Parents do not have the information on the number of points they’ve earned, and are having trouble keeping track of the points. We agreed to put the onus on parents to keep track of points, and to come up with some sort of “parent life skills” to give to parents on the spot at events.

Fall Family Fun Night

Denise Paz is heading up the Fun night in addition to doing the haunted house. We discussed a gift to thank Denise for her hard work (VISA gift card or something of the sort), and also discussed something similar for Dan, Trudy, and Renee. Kathy ordered prizes for the FFFN.

Kids Day

Shyla and Chandra have a plan for next year. Chandra and her husband have a friend with a coffee truck , and have offered to have the friend sell coffee (iced and hot), and snow cones, and the also sell baked good provided by TP. This brought up the issue of selling coffee at the Pasta Feed, and everyone agreed that we should. Also, Kathy agreed to talk to Chandra about having Chandra talk to her friend about coffee baskets for the auction, or selling bags of coffee.

XMAS Share

Donald got the paperwork to the Volunteer Center to sign up to be recipients, and November 1 is the final deadline to get wish lists to the Volunteer Center. On December 10 we can start picking up the items, and Donald and Kerri only can pick up the gifts. December 22 is that last day to pick up gifts. The TP Xmas Share will be in the MU on 12/20 starting at 7pm. If Giving Tree items come in after 12/20, then we will deal with them later.

Innisbrook

Final numbers came in after this meeting. PTA made $6078.93 from Innisbrook.

Other Financial matters

KC has had a family emergency. Donald has the checkbook. Also, Donald has given up on getting the previous PTA data from Julie Milner, and has recreated the books from scratch starting with August 2005.

Possible Restaurant Nights

Fresh Choice 20%
Baja Fresh 15%
Applebees 20%

Baja Fresh will create fliers.

Cold Stone Scoop night 15%

Holiday Pies from Cold Stone

Pies cost $17 and we keep $5. Cold Stone provides fliers, and we get orders. Cold Stone calls each person who ordered a pie when the pies are ready for pick up. TP or PTA do not handle the pies, the people who order them pick them up at Cold Stone. Four different pies are available. Orders must be in by 12/5.

McDonalds

We can buy for $5/gallon the mix that makes up 5 gallons of orange drink. McD will give us a certain number of certificates good for a Happy Meal to give out as prizes at events, such as the top classes in K-2 and 3-5 for the November penny challenge. Happy meal is hamburger and milk or apple juice, and apples not fries.

McTeachers night

3hr time window any weeknight we choose, where we get a % of sales. Teachers can work behind counters as greeters.

Reading awards
Donald trying to get McDonalds to give us coupons good for French fries as reading awards.

Walmart recycle challenge
$5 for every 60 gallon bag of recycled plastic grocery bags. 12/19 is cut-off date.

PTA is joining the Cotati Chamber of Commerce to help put our name out.

A letter regarding the left-turn lane from 116 onto Madrone was sent to CalTrans.

Welcome to the new school year

The new PTA board spent a lot of time this summer making plans for the upcoming school year. We started by developing a ‘Blue Sky’ list, full of activities and events we’d like to try to accomplish.

Some of these ideas are already in progress, others are still a ways away. Of course, we could use your help. We know how important the faculty and staff are to Thomas Page, and that nothing we do will truly succeed without your support.

Here’s a sample of the new ideas that are in progress:

Page Parent Participation Points (Kids’ Night Out)

  • Parents earn points by participating in PTA activities.
  • Points can be redeemed for monthly nights out - the parents can enjoy dinner or a movie together, while the kids will have a supervised movie/game night at school.

A Penny for Their Thoughts

  • We have set a goal of trying to collect one million pennies, both as a fundraiser and as an educational experience.
  • Each class will be provided with a piggy bank and coin roll wrappers to store their collection.
  • We will offer a prize raffle for students—any student who brings in at least 25 pennies will be entered into a drawing.
  • We can provide suggestions on integrating penny-related activities into your curriculum, including topics such as estimating, calculating area and weight, US history, and more.

Pasta Feed and Auction

  • Mark November 18 on your calendar—that’s the date of our First Annual Pasta Feed and Auction.
  • Art Ibleto, the Pasta King, will be supplying the pasta, and we’ll be inviting the community to join us for a night of food and fun.
